Firm Culture

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

Smith, Graham & Co. Investment Advisors, L.P. (“SGIA”) is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (“DE&I”). We are dedicated to ensuring that our workplace is an environment where all associates feel comfortable, safe and engaged as we believe an inclusive and collaborative work environment has been and continues to be vital to the success of the firm.

SGIA is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with the Supplier Clearinghouse for the Utility Supplier Diversity Program. Approximately 93% of the firm is owned by minorities and women and over 50% of our total staff are minorities and/or women. Moreover, we believe that it is not enough to just qualify as a minority firm due to ownership and employee composition.  Our goal is also to encourage full participation by minority firms through our own purchasing of goods and services.  To that end, we employ or utilize minority owned firms or professionals to serve in the capacity of legal counsel, CPA firms, consultants, and insurance brokers, as well as other vendors and suppliers.

SGIA promotes equal employment opportunities and makes every effort to ensure that our policies regarding hiring, compensation, promotion, and transfer are based solely on job requirements, job performance, and job-related criteria. In partnership with our human resource provider, SGIA provides several learning resources to educate its employees in the areas of DE&I and assist employees with their DE&I journey to improve understanding and appreciate differences.

Community Impact/Philanthropy:

SGIA believes in giving back to the community. Our philanthropic commitments have been an essential part of the firm since its inception and continue to be part of our guiding principles. Our charitable work targets youth programs, arts and culture and health and education. In addition to financial donations, we share our time and skills with organizations and people in need and have been recognized by the United Way of Greater Houston as being one of their largest contributors in the small firm category.
